1941 Aeronca 65TL

For Sale: Partly disassembled Project Aeronca 65TL with additional Continental A80 engine and spare, original Lycoming 65 HP engine (plus a second, disassembled Lycoming engine). This is a stalled project with wings and tail feathers removed but I believe all is there to reassemble and build a decent flying airplane.

PLEASE NOTE: there is a minor fabric tear in the upper/rear fuselage. This happened while moving the plane. There is a photo below of the tear.

CORRECTION: The Continental engine that comes with this plane is an "A-80". I have previously and incorrectly listed it as an A75 (I just looked in the engine logbook and realized my error).

Here's my basic ad placed in several places.

Project: 1941 Aeronca 65T "Tandem Trainer" . Sometimes referred to as "Aeronca Defender". This plane precedes the Champ but is similar overall. It's a tailwheel plane with tandem seating with sticks (not yoke). Prop start, no electrics and non-balanced rudder. Same Spec Cert. as L3, 65TC and 65 TF (NO. A-728). Aeronca built several different "Tandem Trainers". Most were "65TC" (with Continental 65 HP engine). They also built a "65TF" (Franklin 65 HP engine) and this "65TL" ( Lycoming 65 HP engine). Generally, the 65 HP Continental is considered the most desirable and many 65TFs and 65TLs were converted to the Continental engine). I was in the middle of converting this plane to Continental power some years back when "life happened" and the project stalled. It comes with a 80hp Continental A-80 engine (originally in a J5 Cub) plus the correct Continental engine mount for this plane. The 80 HP engine is a slightly retuned vesion of the 65 HP Continental and weights the same. The Continental 80 is currently mounted on the plane (just for testing). I have had it running and oil pressure, etc seems fine. The logbook for this engine came with a note that it will need a valve job soon (compression was fine when I checked it). This plane also comes with an original 65 HP Lycoming engine and Aeronca engine mount. This engine ran and flew fine but these things were never very powerful so I bought the Continental to improve power. I also have most of the parts needed to build a second 65 HP Lycoming engine. I have a number other spares including 3 (total) props. One correct, wood Sensenich, a wood homebuilt prop and a metal prop. The fuselage is currently stored in a "hoop house" on my property. Wings, struts, the Lycoming engines are stored in a heated garage space. I have very early logbooks and well as more recent logbooks. The plane was recoveded in modern fabric around '96. Not a "show quality" recovering job but useable. (it's been indoors much of the time since then). The plane is dusty and dirty and would benefit from someone cleaning and checking everything during re-assembly. But I beleive it's all there ans could be a good airplane. I always enjoyed flying it. I want $7500 for everything (or close offer) and am not willing to sell any parts seperatly. Face to face deals only; no "creative" arrangements. I'm not in any real rush to sell it at this point so I plan on holding firm on price for now.
